Being a Mom is hard. Like really hard. Some days I start counting down for bed time before it is even nap time. I am blessed in the fact that I do not work on Thursdays. In the summer the kids and I have so much fun on my days off. We go to the splash park and play outside all day long. In the winter though I am so thankful for the time they go to Thursday Bible school. I get to go to the store and have time to sit and drink coffee without interruption. It is glorious. Yesterday we got the notification that Bible school is cancelled today due to so many sick teachers and students. Flu season sucks.
I immediately knew that the best thing was to just go to the store after work so that we could just hang out and play today.
So I picked the kiddos up and off to Walmart we went.....it was awful from the moment I put Aria in the cart. She wanted to walk...but I wouldn't let her. She wanted to wear her coat. Then she didn't want to wear it and then she did. She cried and cried. This was all within the first 2 minutes of entering the doors. A kind worker felt my anxiety and offered the kids a banana. Awesome. Jax was so great. He peeled his treat and ate it all with a smile on his face. Aria wanted to peel it herself....fail. She cried. She then wanted me to peel it and it broke. Fail. She cried. I knew that I had to make this as fast as I could. I grabbed just the items we absolutely needed and ran to check out.
Both the kids love to help put the items on the belt but while doing so they would fight over what item they would put on the belt. Both cried. The bread got flattened. The bananas got bruised. The tortilla chips got broken up. By the time we left I was so over it. I was so mad that I could have screamed.
Aria was in tears from getting in trouble. Both kids got told they would not be getting any valentines candy at home. Both cried. Jax begged for forgiveness. Aria screamed all the way home. Over it.
I went to bed as soon as the kids did. I slept harder than I have all week. I woke up and knew that today had to be better than yesterday evening was. So two cups of coffee, laundry almost done dnace party and outside play all before 11:00 I call this a win for this morning.
Parenting is harder than any job but the kisses I got this morning when I woke up make it all worth it...even the awful Walmart trips that happen all too often.
